Treat it well. It lasts.
Platinum silicone is built to endure — with the right care, your replica will remain in excellent condition for years.
1. Cleaning After Use
Rinse your product under warm running water before and after each use. Apply a small amount of mild, unscented soap — antibacterial liquid soap or a dedicated toy cleaner works well — and work it gently across the entire surface. Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed.
Pat dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, or allow to air dry completely before storing. Do not put it away while still damp; moisture trapped in storage can encourage mildew over time, even on non-porous silicone.
2. Lubricant Compatibility
Use water-based lubricants exclusively. Silicone-based lubricants — even high-quality ones — will chemically interact with the platinum silicone and cause the surface to become tacky, discoloured, or degraded over repeated use. This damage is not covered under any warranty or defect claim, as it results from incorrect product use.
Oil-based lubricants are also not recommended: they are harder to clean thoroughly from a silicone surface and may leave residue that degrades over time. Stick to a quality water-based lubricant and you will have no issues.
3. Storage
Store your product in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. UV exposure can cause colour changes in silicone over time, and high temperatures may affect the material's integrity.
The ideal storage option is the original packaging your product arrived in — it is designed specifically for this purpose. Alternatively, a clean fabric pouch (cotton or microfibre) works well. Avoid storing silicone products in direct contact with other silicone items for extended periods, as some surface interaction is possible.
4. What to Avoid
- ✕ Silicone-based lubricants. Will degrade the material surface permanently.
- ✕ Alcohol-based cleaners. Harsh disinfectants, hand sanitisers, or isopropyl alcohol will dry out and damage the silicone over repeated use.
- ✕ Prolonged UV exposure. Direct sunlight or tanning lamp exposure will cause gradual colour change.
- ✕ Sharp objects or abrasive surfaces. Platinum silicone is durable but can be cut. Keep away from knives, scissors, or rough surfaces.
- ✕ Dishwashers. The high heat and detergents in dishwashers are not appropriate for this product, despite what some guides suggest.
5. Longevity
Platinum silicone is genuinely durable. With proper cleaning, correct lubricant choice, and appropriate storage, your product should remain in excellent condition for many years. There is no set expiry date for high-quality silicone.
Watch for the following signs that indicate it may be time to replace your product: persistent tackiness that does not wash off, visible surface cracking or crumbling, significant discolouration that appeared suddenly, or any strong persistent odour. These are signs that the material has been compromised, typically through incorrect lubricant use or storage conditions.
